And Stuff Like That: Reloaded

We Have the Technology

I've grown quite fond of texting back and forth with my girlfriend during the day. It's a nice little way for us to keep in touch and know we're thinking of each other:

"Happy Wednesday, honey! Halfway to the weekend. Thinking of you. Love you. M"

Carnivals, Courtship, and Contract Disputes.

The stress previously mentioned in my blog has died down quite a bit, but I've stayed pretty busy. Some of that busyness has been doing fun things. This weekend I played poker Friday evening and then on Saturday Glenda, her son, and I went to the Missouri State Fair. Cute story about that:

Benjamin, 5, had been asking throughout the day to go to the carnival. We consistently told him that we weren't going to go there because we didn't trust the safety of the rides. After he asked that one too many times, I told him that he really needed to stop asking. He replied, "Um...if I stop asking can we maybe go to the carnival then?" I couldn't help but chuckle, but the answer was still no.

Glenda and I have decided to get on the fast track to determine if we're compatible enough for marriage. Her number one interest is obviously her son, and if things aren't going to work out between her and me then, for his sake, she doesn't want things dragged out. I completely appreciate that. So what we've begun doing is tackling those hot topics that could be "deal breakers" down the line if we can't come to a consensus on them. After all, if a relationship between us isn't going to work out, it's better to find out sooner than later, right? So far, of the few big issues we've talked about, we've been pretty compatible. Still a bunch to go, though.

In other news we have another meeting with AVI today about our routing switcher. Fun stuff. Not. More details later.

Exhausted.

I am so tired and so mentally strained that ...I'm beat. Work is stressful because of a foul-up the vendor made that we're trying to get resolved. Home life is stressful because of (very) strained relations between the parental units. Relationship life is stressful because Glenda and I are getting into some pretty deep stuff together (though things are still very good between us) and her life is stressful right now. Oh, and I've not been getting anywhere close to the sleep I need for the last few days.

I need a massage. And then a nap. And then a vacation. Rinse and repeat.

A Close One.

My sister last night won her bid for the 1st District City Council seat...but not by much. Out of 2775 votes cast, she won by only 17 (1396 to 1379). I can name 17 people that I KNOW voted for her. Whew, that's close!

I'm so proud of my sister. She really does care about this city and she's going to do a great job. I look forward to seeing her each Monday evening as she sits on the dais helping make important decisions and I sit in the control room operating the TV broadcast.

The Lazy Days of Summer (Blogging)

What is it about summer that tosses all normalcy up in the air and doesn't let it drop until after Labor Day? TV networks don't run any new shows, school's out, everybody goes on vacation, and the temps go up.

I haven't blogged nearly as much this summer as I would have liked. Of course, I'm still doing better than some of ya'll. You know who you are. ;-)

In the spirit of trying to keep you updated on stuff, I now submit my "quick hits" version of ASLT:R.....
  1. I have a girlfriend. Her name is Glenda, we've known each other since elementary school, and reconnected back in June. It's been lots of fun ever since. I see lots of potential there.
  2. Stuff with the router project at work has been a bit bumpy. The vendor under-engineered the system and we've been in discussions with them about how it's going to be remedied. There's a big meeting this afternoon about it.
  3. My sister's campaign is going well. She actually found out that her opponent hasn't voted in 20 years. He's trying to play it off as no big deal, but she and thousands of veterans know better.
  4. There is no 4.
Now, time to get ready for work.
